What am I doing in Uganda?

Well, if you are on this blog you probably know that I am leaving for Uganda very soon. I am staying there for eight months, from January 9 to August 24 (one day before I have to move back to Eastern University for fall semester!). What exactly will I be doing?

Well, for the first four months I am going to study abroad at Uganda Christian University in Mukono, which is right outside the capitol Kampala. During that time, I will be doing a bunch of great things, like studying African politics and literature, taking a trip into Rwanda, volunteering in the area, doing a homestay with a local family, and possibly going on a safari.

After May 5, after the semester ends, I am going to work with Emmanuel International instead of coming home for the summer. E-I's focus in Uganda is on displaced children and families in the north-central region of Pader.
I will be doing a variety of mission work, such as sustainable development, spiritual outreach, relief and rehabilitation, and HIV/AIDS education. I return on August 24, just in time for the Fall semester at Eastern. Check out their website: http://www.e-i.org/

If you want to learn more about the history and current events of Uganda, I recommend visiting BBC News' Uganda country profile page: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/country_profiles/1069166.stm

My flight leaves around 8:45 in the morning on January 7 from Newark airport, with a 12-hour stopover in London (I'll taking reading recommendations for the wait!), and I will meet up with the other students at Entebbe airport in Uganda around 9:00 pm on January 9.

One last note: I need to raise about $4000 for my mission work with Emmanuel International, and I am sending out letters to a lot of people. If you would like to help with the cost, please email me at kslining@eastern.edu and let me know! It would be greatly appreciated!

Have a great day!
